The fishing season runs from 6th April to 31st October.
The Ure is one of the loveliest rivers in Yorkshire. It flows down from the Pennine hills above Hawes, for over seventy miles through the picture-postcard Wensleydale landscape of barns and drystone walls, to become the Ouse a few miles upstream of York. The river has a varied character of pools and riffles, interspersed with bedrock sections and waterfalls.
The River Ure is also one of North Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets as a premier salmon river! The Blue Lion Inn is just a short distance away, making it the perfect location for all standards of fishermen. Here at The Blue Lion we are able to offer a day on the river at a fraction of the cost of what is paid on Scottish rivers and provide our guests with an excellent day’s fishing. There are some lovely deep-holding pools, tempting runs and glides. Enjoy a day’s fishing on our private beat – which is on the Jervaulx stretch of the River Ure, 1.6miles from Cover Bridge.
Salmon can be fished on a catch and release basis. Fly fishing is available from the South Bank only and no trout or grayling can be caught. We also offer packed lunches from The Blue Lion.
